Secondary Air Valve Cam Replacement
Q2701 is the Rochester Quadrajet secondary air valve cam that replaces worn or damaged cams.
1.) Remove airhorn
2.) Both air valve flaps need to be removed. File down (4) screw threads that protrude from air valve shaft, so that the end of the screw is now flush with shaft. (This is done to prevent the stripping of threads, as the original screws were "staked" at the factory to prevent them from accidentally falling out.) Carefully loosen screws and remove air valve flaps.
3.) Note positioning of old air valve cam. Disconnect air valve tension spring and slid shaft out of airhorn.
4.) Re-install shaft with new cam.
5.) Attach air valve tension spring to shaft. It is highly recommended to replace the air valve spring with a new unit (Q2702)
6.) Reinstall air valve flaps and install the screws loosely for now. Ensure air valve operates freely and does not bind, then loosen one screw at a time and add ‘red’ loctite on screw threads. When complete, center punch end of screw threads for positive screw retention. Ensure air valve operates freely and does not bind.
