Duration spring is located on accelerator pump assembly between the pump cup and the retainer. The duration spring is used as a safety valve that compresses when the throttle is opened quickly.
Gasoline is not compressable, without the compression spring the accelerator pump linkage would bend and distort under the stress.

Note: Depending on length of the pump plunger assembly, it may be necessary to cut and reduce the duration spring length to allow proper plunger compression.
